 Buy only if you are already invested in Quicken July 24, 2010

So I purchased this software because my 2007 version didn't update my investments anymore. Also, because I have over 10 years worth of data in this products which gives me a lot of information that I can use to budget with. Otherwise, if you are starting from scratch and don't have a lot of historical data I would suggest that you use one of the other tools out there instead of buying this version. GnuCash works well. If you do a Google search for any of the free software packages they work just as well.

br /Next I wouldn't purchase this software unless you have investments, 401K or mutual funds you need to keep track of. If you don't then I would choose a similar software package.

br /I don't think that Intuit should make you upgrade to a newer version just because they don't want to support the older versions. I shouldn't have to upgrade to get features I don't need, just because I want to have my investments update from the public stock quote information.

br /As for how the software works, its okay. It is very different from 2007 in how it functions with the tabs at the top. I like in 2007 when you could just click on an section heading and it would take you to that section, like banking or investing. Now they have replace this function with tabs at the top, which makes it easier for beginners but takes up screen space unnecessarily.

As a former MS Money user for 10+ years I was disappointed when Microsoft decided to terminate their product. But, Quicken appears to be just as good even though it takes some time to get use to the differences. I am still in the process of setting up all of my accounts. From talking with others I decided not to try the built-in conversion program. It was very easy to set up the on-line bill pay for each of two banks I deal with and all of the account numbers and addresses automatically downloaded when I connected to the bank - I was expecing that to be a difficult set up process. So far I am very pleased with Quicken Premier 2010.
Effortless MONEY conversion June 23, 2010

I just purchased Premier 2010, and with some trepidation (based on all of the horror stories I've read in these reviews)I began the conversion from MS Money 2007. I had been a Money user for many years but only employed the program to track investments. Well, I really didn't need to read the instruction material--which I had pored over in advance--as the conversion was simple, very fast, and intuitive. My balances were right on, and, frankly I like the Quicken display of historical information and current info. much better than Money. The entering of transactions has required some flipping between screens that wasn't necessary in Money, but the other features of Quicken, which give me a lot more comfort in managing my portfolio, outweigh that inconvenience. I do not have any put or call transactions, and no longer have unexercised options, so I don't know how well the conversion would handle those more esoteric items. My sense is that because I purchased 2010 almost 9 months after its release date, many of the problems noted by others have probably been worked out. Another advantage to 2010 over 2009 is that the conversion program is embedded in the Quicken code, so there's no need to download anything.

A former Money user, I was forced to change to Quicken 2010. Money was clearer to operate, visually less distracting, intuitive, and actually worked. Quicken did not import my Money files, although they said they could - I was forced to work with the current year only, with hours of manual corrects to get it correct, and lost all prior data. Quicken is counter intuitive in several of its processes, making it quite difficult to use - for example, they have a very difficult time with stock options, making to the manual process associated with entry much longer than Money - and then can you be sure the data is correct. Finally, it worked, with all its flaws, on my system for several months, and then simply stopped permitting downloads of data - try to download data and the program shuts itself down. Try googling this problem and you will find it is very common, but think you can find an easy solution to a common problem from Intuit - no way. Try googling for a solution, or try to get one from Intuit - the sell software, and seem to have no interest in helping make it work.
