5 out of 5 stars Efficient, effective, but a little difficult to install   March 9, 2010
James Bologna
This is the third year I've been using Kaspersky Internet Security for my home computers and I have found it to be very effective. It scans emails, monitors all functions and doesn't appear to slow down my computer noticably as other antivirus applications did in the past. Parential settings are nice and easy to set up. br / br /I did have difficulties installing the software on all of three of my computers. The software found an updated version of a file at the Kaspersky website that it wanted to use which kept the installation from working. If asked, use the file that comes on the disk and Kaspersky will automatically update everything once you have the software loaded. br / br /Otherwise it works rather effectively. I've used Trend Microsystem's product which I felt was good and Norton which slowed everything down but I've read that Norton has fixed this problem. Still Kaspersky's price and features make this a very competitive product.

5 out of 5 stars Kaspersky 2010   March 8, 2010

I switched last year to Kaspersky 2009 after being loyal to Norton for years. Like many others I made the switch because Norton dramatically slowed my system down. True to form Kaspersky brought my computer back to life and never bogged things down. It came time to renew but this year's 2010 reviews had me a little worried. I run Windows Vista Home, installed Kaspersky 2010 about a month ago and am completely happy. My only real issue in general might be of the warning for the old subscription running out-I believe I only got the warning whenever I powered up. I leave my computer on almost all the time. While I knew I was getting close to running out soon, I didn't realize I'd been running without any system protection for about 3 days. Heck, I shouldn't complain though-I knew better and should have taken action before so my bad. I used to b#^*h and moan about Norton bothering me every few hours with large annoying warnings about my subscription ending. I know, I guess I'm prone to complaining about this issue either way. My advice-don't be cheap like me and wait till the last second to update your security. I'm not very tech-ish so I'll leave specifics about this package to the better qualified but I will say that if you're comfortable with the way 2009 ran you'll be completely happy with the 2010 version. Here's the skinny: Kaspersky 2010 is working great for me and I highly suggest it.

5 out of 5 stars Kaspersky IS 2010   March 7, 2010
Thomas Willson (Havelock, NC USA)
Great product! Highly recommend! Runs in the background and does not interfere with what you are doing unless it detects a real problem. Doesn't hog system resources and stays current, seamlessly and automatically. I like it better than both Norton and/or McAfee. They are good, but in my opinion, this one is better. I'll stick with The Big "K", thank you very much!

1 out of 5 stars Kaspersky TKO'd by McAfee   March 6, 2010

I worked at installing this for a few hours with no success. I had McAfee installed on this computer at one time and none of the Kaspersky tools can successfully remove all of the remnant McAfee files to an extent where Kaspersky will install. The normal install wouldn't work, so Kaspersky offered two tools to manually remove what was left of McAfee. I tried both of these. The first I got error messages that said it didn't successfully remove McAfre. The second tool seemed to work because it said it removed McAfee successfully, but when I rebooted and tried to install Kaspersky I got the same error message, no can do because McAfee is still there. So I went through another cycle with the manual tools with the same results, even though again the second tool said it was successful, it really wasn't. This cost me $25.93 with shipping via Costco online (although I do buy a LOT of products from Amazon) so the saving grace is I just take it back to my local Costco tomorrow and they'll hand me the $25.93 in cash. Life is short, a couple of hours wasted on installing balky software that in the end doesn't work and offers no solutions is not worth it. Norton will probably cost double what Kaspersky costs but I've used Norton before with no problems, whatever I thought I was saving in money cost me double in aggravation and now I have to go the more expensive route anyway. br / br /I run XP if that's of any interest. And I can't say how Kaspersky works if you actually install it but if you had McAfee at anytime on your computer, be forewarned, Kaspersky was knocked out in every round by McAfee on this computer, and the result is McAfee by technical knockout, Kaspersky is a bum. Next opponent, Norton. br /

1 out of 5 stars Interfered with browser activity, required technical knowlege to fix   March 4, 2010
David B. Spalding (ChromeJob.com)
Pros: simple installation, ease of use (checking coverage) br / br /Cons: introduced a ssl certificate problem to web browsers resulting in blocking access to secure online sites., lousy tech support (so far) br / br /I installed this on two systems this past weekend, and got an unexpected (and unforewarned!) surprise. Kaspersky installed some kind of root authority certificate in Firefox 3.6 which interfered with access to any SSL connection (a WWW address beginning with https, indicating SSL encryption, or "secure web connection"). Suddenly valid sites like Apple.com, Paypal.com, my bank, etc., were generating certificate errors and not rendering properly in the browser (possibly the result of Kaspersky blocking the CSS page formatting information). br / br /A submission to their technical support department with a detailed report (including screen shots clearly indicating a Kaspersky root authority certificate causing the problem) resulted in a long reply with a number of unrelated "things to check out" solutions. Basically, Tech Support didn't even read my message or review my pics. br / br /I found the solution by digging into the online Help file, because as a software test engineer I knew what I was looking for. A non-technical user would probably NOT have found this in their Help, nor would be able to execute their instructions for (manually) importing their certificate into my web browsers. br / br /Bottom line: Kaspersky crippled my browsers' ability to connect securely to any site, and the solution was a) hard to find, and b) required technical adroitness to implement. br / br /For this reason, I can't even give this product anything but the lowest ranking. I've used ZoneAlarm and McAfee ViruScan Plus previously, and would recommend them to mainstream users.
